SV national Zoological Park

 Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park has been established on modern concepts of Zoo Management wherein the animals are exhibited in wider and near natural enclosures resembling to their natural habitat. The Park is named after “Sri Venkateswara” the Lord of Seven Hills in Tirupati. Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park is developed on Mythological theme. It highlights the role of wild animals in Mythology, ancient texts like the epics of Ramayana, Mahabharata, Puranas, Vedas and Upanishads. The message of nature conservation with all its diversity is conveyed emphasizing the role of animal and plant life in Indian culture. Depiction of Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha avatharas which are the incarnations of Lord Vishnu at the entrance of the Zoo makes the visitor aware of the mythological theme in which the zoo is developed. Similarly, a statue of Lord Ganesha, the God of wisdom and plenty, also symbolising the mega-herbivore Elephant is installed near the entrance of the zoo. Lord Ganesha has also been incorporated into the logo of the Zoo. Also an inscription at the entrance quotes “Beejam maam sarvabhootanam” - “I am the eternal seed of all creation” which means that God exists in all living beings. The enclosures for most of the native faunal species have been given mythological names according to their role/ relation described in any of the ancient scripts.

Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park spreads over an area of 1254.71 hectares in which 289 hectares is developed sofar. Presently ,zoo houses 32 species of mammals, 49 species of birds and 7 species of reptiles.


ANIMAL RESCUE CENTER


Under “Prevention of cruelty against animals Act” 1960. The Government of India has banned the exhibition of Wild animals such as Lions, Tigers, Bears and Monkeys in circuses and public places. S.V. Zoological Park is one among the 7 Zoos selected for the establishment of Animal Rescue Centers (ARC) in the year 1999.The Rescue Centre will be like an orphanage where improved upkeep and health care will be provided to the rescued animals which is being funded by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA).At present there are 3 lioness in the Animal Rescue Centre of S.V.Zoological Park,Tirupati .


Veterinary Unit:

Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park has a Veterinary unit which includes a Veterinary team, Hospital, laboratory, Isolation ward and Quarantine center. Veterinary team has two veterinary assistant surgeons, one veterinary assistant, one lab technician. Veterinary team daily monitors the health of all the inmates of the zoo. The sick animal will be given treatment and will isolate the animal from the group incase of severity in the sickness. Hospital is equipped with X-ray machine , Bio chemical analyzer etc. Fecal samples will be collected for every 3months and analyzed in the laboratory to know the protozoan &bacterial loads. Newly arrived animals/birds will be quarantined for 40-45 days in the quarantine center before shifting them into the enclosures.

Prophylactic measures:

  • Vaccination to Large Carnivores against Trypanosomiasis disease is done every 6months and against Feline Rhinotracheitis, calici, Penleukopenia on annual basis.
  • Vaccination to lesser carnivores against Distemper,Hepatitis, Parvo, Penenzitis, Influenza & Leptospirosis diseases is  done on annual basis.
  • Vaccination to Birds against Raniket disease is done on annual basis.
  • Deworming of animals ,birds is done every 3 months.
  • Disinfection of animal enclosures with Butox, Khorlosin is done every two months.
